What is the period of y = sin(2x)?

The regular sin(x) repeats every 2π. When the input is 2x instead of x, does the graph repeat faster or slower?

Slower, because the number is bigger. So the period is 4π.

Try a point. At x = π, the input is 2π, a full cycle already. So the graph finishes a cycle sooner. How would you find the new period?

Divide instead: 2π ÷ 2 = π.

The period is π. In general, y = sin(Bx) has period 2π ÷ |B|, so a bigger B squeezes the wave.

For y = sin(Bx), the period is 2π ÷ |B|: a bigger B means a shorter period.
