See how Kuest teaches it

It asks before it tells, so you do the thinking and it sticks.

You: How does a competitive inhibitor change Km and Vmax?
Kuest: Start with where a competitive inhibitor binds. Where does it go on the enzyme?
You: The active site, so it blocks the substrate. That should lower Vmax.
Kuest: Good start on where it binds. Now imagine you add a huge amount of substrate. Who wins the competition for the active site?
You: The substrate, because there's so much more of it. So the enzyme can still reach the same top speed.
Kuest: Right, Vmax stays the same. But you needed more substrate to get there. What does that do to Km?
You: Km goes up, because it takes more substrate to reach half of Vmax.

Competitive inhibitors raise the apparent Km but leave Vmax unchanged, because enough substrate outcompetes them.

The method

How to study Biochemistry with Kuest

Biochemistry is chemistry applied to living cells, so it sticks when you connect structure to function and ask why each pathway step is regulated where it is. Draw pathways from memory, explain regulation out loud, and space your review so enzymes and intermediates build on each other through the semester.

  1. Ask why the pathway works that wayTutor chat

Ask about a step or an enzyme and Kuest has you reason about structure, energy and regulation before it explains.

  2. Map pathways on the boardTeaching board

The teaching board draws glycolysis, the citric acid cycle or a binding curve step by step, so you see where each molecule goes.

  3. Graph kineticsGraphs

Plot Michaelis–Menten and Lineweaver–Burk curves and see how each type of inhibitor changes them.

  4. Review with spaced flashcardsFlashcards

Turn amino acids, enzymes and regulators into flashcards that come back on a schedule instead of all at once.

  5. Listen to your lecture notesPodcasts

Turn a unit on metabolism into a short podcast to review between classes.

  6. Take a practice examMock exams

Sit a timed test with passage-style and calculation questions, like course exams and MCAT practice, and review each miss.

  1. 01Amino acids and protein structureClassify side chains, find pI and describe the four levels of structure.
  2. 02Protein function and bindingExplain oxygen binding curves, cooperativity and allosteric effects.
  3. 03Enzyme kinetics and inhibitionRead Michaelis–Menten and Lineweaver–Burk plots and identify inhibitor types.
  4. 04CarbohydratesDraw monosaccharides and glycosidic bonds and tell common sugars apart.
  5. 05Lipids and membranesDescribe lipid types, membrane structure and how molecules cross membranes.
  6. 06BioenergeticsUse ΔG, coupled reactions and redox carriers like NADH and FADH₂.
  7. 07Glycolysis and gluconeogenesisTrace both pathways and explain how they are regulated so they don't run at once.
