See how Kuest teaches it

It asks before it tells, so you do the thinking and it sticks.

You: My mom stops nagging once I clean my room, so I clean it faster. Is that punishment?
Kuest: Let's sort it out. First, is the behavior you're describing, cleaning your room, becoming more likely or less likely?
You: More likely. But something unpleasant is involved, so it's punishment.
Kuest: That's the most common mix-up. Punishment always makes a behavior less likely. When a behavior becomes more likely, it's reinforcement. So is something added or taken away here?
You: The nagging is taken away. So it's negative reinforcement: removing something unpleasant makes me clean more.
Kuest: Exactly. Negative means removed, not bad. Try this check on any operant example: is the behavior going up or down, and is something added or removed?

Reinforcement increases a behavior and punishment decreases it; negative means something is removed, not that it's bad.

How to study Psychology with Kuest

Psychology has a lot of terms that sound alike, so learn each one through an example you could explain to a friend. Test yourself often instead of rereading, and practice reading studies for their variables and design, since the exam asks you to.

  1. Plan the five unitsStudy plan

Set your exam date and get a schedule across the AP Psychology units with review weeks before May.

  2. Learn terms through examplesTutor chat

Ask Kuest for everyday examples of concepts like the bystander effect or proactive interference, then make up your own.

  3. See the brain and the neuronTeaching board

Use the teaching board to label brain regions and step through an action potential and synaptic transmission.

  4. Separate look-alike termsFlashcards

Review pairs that get confused, like assimilation and accommodation, with spaced flashcards.

  5. Practice the AAQ and EBQMock exams

Answer an article analysis question and an evidence-based question in a timed mock exam, then review your use of research and evidence.

  6. Find your weak unitsGap finder

Let Kuest track which units and question types you miss most and focus your last weeks there.
