How long does it take to learn Hangul?

Why is it 저는 학생이에요 but 제가 할게요?

Both 는 and 가 can mark the person, but they do different jobs. In “저는 학생이에요,” are you introducing a topic or answering “who?”

Right, 은/는 marks the topic. Now imagine someone asks “Who will do it?” and you answer “I'll do it.” What's the focus there?

The focus is on who, so I use 가, and 저 plus 가 becomes 제가: 제가 할게요.

Exactly. Try it: someone asks 누가 왔어요? (Who came?) and your friend Minsu came.

민수가 왔어요.

은/는 marks the topic you're talking about, and 이/가 points to the subject, especially when answering “who?” or “what?”
